Collection: Cataldi Madonna

Vine cultivation and wine production have very ancient roots in Abruzzo and it is very likely that it was the Etruscans who introduced the vine to the lands of this region. The wine produced in Abruzzo has always received commendable appreciation, first it was the Greeks who praised the qualities, soon followed by the Romans.

Also the farm of Cataldi Madonna is confirmed in line with this tradition. The baroni Cataldi Madonna agricultural company was founded in 1920, initially with a strong propensity for zootechnics. In 1968 Antonio expanded the viticultural part of the company, which began to take on the role of absolute protagonist towards the beginning of the nineties, thanks above all to his son Luigi, a philosophy professor with a strong passion for wine.

Luigi Cataldi Madonna, who in 2013 began the process of organic conversion, is a unique character of the Abruzzo wine scene, a reference point, a stubborn man who in full respect of the environment has always tried to make a good and correct agriculture. After many years on the scene, he passed the baton to his daughter Giulia Cataldi Madonna who runs the company with the same talent and inspiration.

We are in Ofena, a few kilometers from Pescara, inside what is called "the oven of Abruzzo"; we are in a small plateau, a natural amphitheater located under the only ice of the entire Apennines, the Calderone. A unique terroir which guarantees unique climatic conditions: the amphitheater keeps the heat in, but the air coming from the Calderone cools down the summer days guaranteeing high temperature ranges which generate a higher concentration of sugars in the grapes.

Luigi's merit was certainly to have believed tenaciously in an area abandoned by all, and to have shown its great value. All this love for his work has led to the production of great wines, strongly territorial, endowed with character and elegance.

Cataldi Madonna has been awarded several times with the greatest awards of different Wine guides.
